Throughout the semester I have worked on numerous projects - below you will find the five that I believe portray my best work.
Instructional Video: The Effects of the Great Depression
This is a short video outlining the effects of the Great Depression. The original video was made using Powtoon, however I then uploaded that video to EDpuzzle which allowed me to add in questions as the video progressed. This tool helps with efficiency in class since students can go through and put in their answers while watching the video - they have the material right there and there is no need to fumble through papers searching for information. The content and assessment are right there together, making it easier for the me as the teacher to asses my students. I receive direct feedback and that data can help me plan my future lessons.
Infograph: Digital Footprint and Reputation
Above is an infograph I created using Piktochart. This is a great resource for high schoolers who are beginning to apply for jobs and colleges. The title of each box is a link that leads the student to either a video or an article containing information about one's digital footprint and how it can affect them in their lives. This is an easy-to-use, interactive infograph that can be done in one class period but teach lessons that the students take with them whenever they go online.
VoiceThread: Hitler's Final Solution
This is a VoiceThread made about Hitler's Final Solution - something that a student or the teacher could have potentially done. From the teacher's perspective, it is similar to EDpuzzle in the sense that it allows the students to go at their own pace and have materials repeated if need be. VoiceThread also contains a combination of audio and visual learning which is extremely important in the classroom. From the student's perspective, it could be something that they create in response to a lesson or prompt, showcasing what they've learned or researched. This tool is versatile and helpful in many aspects of the classroom.
Newsletter: Open House
This is a newsletter that models something I would prepare for an open house at the beginning of the year. It contains an overview of who I am as a person and a teacher, as well as some information about the class. I created this using Smore which is a great tool. I can email this newsletter out to the parents, keep it on a class website so the students can access it as well, or I could even print out a few copies to hand out. This tool allows for many different styles and topics for newsletters, which could be a great project tool for students. The simplicity and technological aspect of it is what makes it great for educational purposes.
Symbaloo: Classroom Resources
This is one of my favorite tools that I've learned to use throughout the semester. It is a webmix, containing links to a wide array of websites. There are some websites that would greatly benefit the student when doing research or looking for creative ways to present information. There are also websites that pertain directly to the class, such as my teacher website and quizlet, where I could put study material. It is a great way to present and provide resources for my students and it's easy to navigate. I could potentially invite my students to contribute to the webmix so that they get to play a part in their education and they aren't just stuck with what I give them.
Hour of Code
This certificate shows that I have completed an hour of code. This website contains games for people of all ages to learn the basics of coding in a fun, easy to use way. This is a great tool to use in any classroom that allows the students to learn all about the technology they use everyay. As technology continues to grow in importance in our society, so does the necessity to know how to code. Having this expereicne myself and having the ability to share it with my future students is a priceless tool that will benefit everyone.
